ARTIST BIO

BIO

Born in 1977 in Finland and raised in a family of artists, Minttu has always lived a life of creativity. Since 1999, she has worked as a successful hairstylist, a profession that continues to fulfil her by allowing her to connect with people and help them feel their best.

In her work, precision is key—highlighting a person’s best features while subtly concealing others. While she finds deep meaning in this creative work, Minttu also began to seek a way to express emotions and ideas beyond appearances.

Since 2020, Minttu has increasingly dedicated herself to painting, where she explores a more liberated form of creativity. In contrast to the precision required in hairstyling, her abstract works challenge the societal emphasis on outer beauty, asking, ‘Why is beauty more valued? Must we always be pretty?’ In a world that constantly seeks perfection, Minttu questions whether it wouldn’t be far more interesting to celebrate authenticity and uniqueness instead. Through her art, she embraces imperfection and resists the urge to ‘pretty up,’ inviting viewers to look beyond the surface. Still learning to fully let go, Minttu’s journey as a painter is one of discovery and personal growth, as she continues to explore raw, authentic expression.

Although she is self-taught, Minttu has developed a distinctive style using mostly acrylics, often combined with other mediums like spray paint, markers, collage, and pencils. These materials allow her to build complex, textured layers in her work, reflecting the multifaceted nature of her themes.

While she dreams of one day dedicating herself entirely to her art, Minttu is also grateful for her fulfilling career as a hairstylist. Living with her husband and two children in the heart of the city, she draws energy from both the urban buzz and her moments of solitude and escape in nature, where she reconnects with herself and finds further inspiration for her work.
